Frequently asked questions

What is an RPO and how is it different to a traditional recruitment agency?

RPO stands for Recruitment Process Outsourcing. It refers to the use of an external provider like Thrive to manage all or part of an organisation’s recruitment process.

Though similar to a recruitment agency in terms of sourcing and shortlisting candidates, an RPO such as Thrive can handle a wider range of strategic recruitment activities such as advisory services, candidate screening, assistance with conducting interviews and coordinating the entire hiring process. At Thrive we focus on the longer term goal of making improvements to your company’s recruitment processes, reducing your time-to-hire, and increasing the overall quality of hires, rather than just looking to ‘fill the position.’

How long am I tied in for?

At Thrive you only pay for what you use and you can use us as much or as little as you need.  We don’t charge monthly fees or ask you to sign long term contracts.  When you need us we are here, when you don’t we simply fade into the background until you need us again.

How hard is it to get you embedded into my business?

It’s simple to embed us into you business, all we need is a couple of email addresses, a logo and some of your time to brief us and we are good to go.  We will then take away all of the pain of recruitment and work with you to deliver a smooth recruitment process and some great candidates.

Why should I pay upfront rather than when I successfully hire someone?

With traditional recruitment typically you pay for a flourish of effort that gradually tails off unless the consultant can see a relatively easy fee.

If you are lucky you will get a result, but it will cost you a lot of money. You are effectively gambling with your recruitment, and winning involves giving someone lots of money, but at least if you lose it didn’t cost you anything…

With Thrive you pay for tangible results. We charge by the ½ day but at the end of each chargeable period you will have something to show for it; a Job Spec, Market Information, some CVs, confirmed interviews with engaged candidates…

We are so confident in our service that if at the end of the first ‘day’ you aren’t happy with how things are going then we will only charge for ½ a day and leave you with all of the tangible work to date.

Even if all you get is a professionally written Job Spec and some market feedback on your salary and job offering, that’s not a bad deal for a few hundred pounds.

What about rebate periods, what if the candidate I hire leaves?

You normally have 10-13 weeks during which time if a candidate leaves then you are due either a free replacement or a sliding scale rebate.  The free replacement, if offered, it is a good deal.  Although painful to go through the process again at least you won’t have wasted thousands of pounds.  The rebate, well unless the candidate resigns very quickly you won’t be seeing much of your money back… and then its back to square one well and truly out of pocket.

If someone we help you source leaves within their probation period, we’ll help you recruit the role again and we’ll only charge 50% of our usual rate.

If you think about it, we could recruit the role three times and still be cheaper than the agency fee! We promise we’ve never needed to do that!

Why don’t I just do it myself, then it costs me nothing?

It is true that if you recruit the role yourself then there won’t be anything hitting your accounts, except maybe a few sponsored Adverts.  However, recruiting the role your self will take up a lot of your time, and may well involve roping in colleagues too.  If you think about what you should be doing; servicing customers, selling your product, running your business, then try and work out the cost of you spending hours recruiting…  It could be a missed sale, a lost customer or any one of the hundreds of things you need to get done not happening.

Then there is the cost of getting it wrong, or not hiring that essential role.  Unless you have the recruitment expertise and the network, this is a real risk too.

Hiring yourself is cheaper when you look at the external costs, but once you dig into the hidden costs, as we explain further in this article you might decide it’s cheaper to work with an expert like Thrive.

Which areas do you cover?

We are based in the North-West of England where we have developed networks of candidates across most areas of business.  However, we are also able to cover the whole of the UK remotely via our network of associates.
